Recharging those body batteries, ready for the next day!

Did you know even the mightiest heroes need their sleep to stay strong and full of energy? Getting enough sleep is important so you’ll be ready for all the exciting adventures the next day brings, whilst keeping your body happy.

Make yourself extra comfortable before bed, whether that’s having calming music, your beloved toy or your favourite pyjamas. Whatever works for you!

If you struggle to sleep well, try reading a story or taking slow, deep breaths to relax your mind and body. Following a bedtime routine helps your body know it’s time to sleep.

Without enough sleep, our bodies and brains can start to act a bit funny. We might feel tired, grumpy, and even get hurt more easily. Sleep helps our muscles recover, lets our yummy food digest, and lets our clever brain clean and process memories while we dream. How does your body feel when you don’t get enough sleep?1

During a special part of sleep called REM (Rapid Eye Movement), your brain organises all the cool things you learned during the day, helps you think creatively and also solves problems. Poor sleep can impact your concentration, emotions, energy levels and even how you grow. All these are super important in daily life!2

How Much Sleep Does Your Child Need?

Conduct a lesson on the effects of inadequate sleep and share strategies to help children achieve better sleep. Encourage students to keep a sleep journal to track their feelings, and notice the physical and mental differences when they have poor sleep. This can help them understand the importance of good sleep habits!

Create a consistent sleep routine with your child to help them fall asleep more easily. Regularly chat with them about how well they slept and offer support if they are struggling. You and your children may notice the physical and mental differences when they have poor sleep – talk about them. Gentle reminders about the importance of sleep can encourage them to make their own decisions about getting rest after a long day at school.
