Jack of Clubs - Sign up for a Fun run

Signing up for a fun run is a great way to have a blast while staying active!

It’s not about being the fastest – it’s all about having fun and enjoying the day. You get to run or walk with friends and family. If you’re lucky you might even get a medal or a special treat at the finish line!

  • Look for a fun run happening near you.
  • Ask your parents to check local event listings, community boards or have a look online.
  • You could ask your friends, to see if any of them go to fun runs!

These runs are called fun for a reason! There are usually music and cool themes, where you could choose to dress up with friends. Fun runs can be a fantastic way to help raise money for important causes; you get to have a blast while making a difference for others.

Mental Health benefits of running
Running can improve mood and mental health. Regular running has been associated with positive mood changes, increased confidence, and reduced anxiety.1

Physical Health benefits of running
It enhances heart function when you’re resting and boosts your overall fitness.2

Organising a fun run is a great way to bring the school community together and raise funds. Here’s how:

  • Plan Early: Choose a date that fits the school calendar and start organising months ahead.
  • Safe Route: Map a clear, hazard-free route on school grounds or a nearby park.
  • Promote It: Spread the word through newsletters, social media, and posters. Add a fun twist by having students dress as their favourite book characters.
  • Add Fun: Include music, water stations, and cheering sections. Plan a warm-up led by a teacher or fitness instructor.
  • Fundraise: Encourage students to collect donations and set up an online fundraising page for easy contributions.

  • A survey of over 1,800 UK families found that 60% felt more connected to their community, and nearly half reported stronger family bonds due to park runs.3
  • Start slow and match your child’s pace to keep them motivated, and do fun practice runs together to build confidence. Involve siblings or family members to make it a bonding experience and cheer each other on to keep it enjoyable.
  • Use the links above to find your local run club or start your own if none are nearby!
